Stand Up To Cancer to Benefit from 10% of Groupon Purchases

100% of Funds will go Directly to Accelerated Cancer Research
February 8, 2011 – Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), and a major force in the fight against cancer, is teaming up with Groupon, the daily deal site offering unbeatable deals in cities around the world, to launch an affiliate partnership showcasing an innovative fundraising method for non-profits. The collaboration will engage the public by offering an incentive for Groupon users to support cancer research.

The program will offer Groupon deals on SU2C’s website that refresh daily and geo-target automatically for each visitor.  For every daily deal purchased through SU2C’s website, SU2C will receive 10% of the proceeds. The initiative offers SU2C’s online supports a new way to give.

“SU2C is extremely excited to work with Groupon,” said Stand Up To Cancer co-founder Sue Schwartz. “We are two young organizations that believe in the collective power of people to accelerate results.”

“An affiliate partnership with SU2C is a win/win,” said Groupon spokeswoman Julie Anne Mossler. “Collective action and charitable support is in our DNA, and we appreciate the chance to reach new customers while supporting such an important cause.”

ABOUT SU2C

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) was established in 2008 by leaders from the film and media industries who utilize the resources of those businesses in unique ways to get the public involved in supporting a new model of cancer research. The group produced two major televised events, in 2008 and 2010, that raised funds for “Dream Teams” of scientists collaborating on research that will get new therapies to patients quickly in order to save lives now. More than 100 celebrities participated in each program, conveying how cancer connects us all, and telling the stories both of people who survived the disease, as well as those taken by it.

All of the major U.S. TV networks—as well as many cable providers—donated airtime for one or both of the broadcasts, which ran in more than 175 countries and raised millions of dollars for research. The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and a Scientific Advisory Committee led by Nobel Laureate Phillip A. Sharp, Ph.D., conducted a rigorous, competitive review process through which SU2C’s grantees were selected. More than 200 scientists from 50 institutions around the world are currently involved in SU2C research projects.
