Job Description

This role works under the direction of the Senior Director of Science and Strategy of SU2C to provide leadership in planning, developing and implementing SU2C’s scientific programs, with the main focus on internally-managed SU2C grants and overseeing the management of scientific-partner managed grants. This role carries a high degree of visibility and requires close collaboration with team members across SU2C and EIF along with external partners. The Associate Director, Scientific Program Management is a passionate, ambitious, professional who can deliver results in an organization and a fast-paced environment. This role represents SU2C and EIF in planning events, scientific reviews, and managing relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees both the internally managed grants and externally managed grants run through one of our grants administration entities processes from RFP formulation through closing a successful grant. This includes working with leading scientists and SU2C collaborators on proposal review and selection, contracting, and periodic grant progress reviews
  • Manages a portfolio of SU2C-managed grants by working with SU2C, EIF, and relevant academic scientists, as well as Team leaders, including but not limited to funding mechanism design, grant selection, contracting, committee management and scientific oversight
  • Represents the SU2C in meetings with key personnel to develop strategies and implement those strategies for SU2C goals as assigned
  • Cultivates and manages the relationship between SU2C and scientific leaders to ensure success of the program and its goals
  • Maintains relationships with scientific and medical experts involved in SU2C committees and SU2C funded projects
  • Monitors trends, researches appropriate subject matter, new technology to support existing projects and in the development of new projects
  • Must be able to travel over 25%, at times with short notice
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in scientific grants management for company, agency, higher education research institution, medical center, or non-profit organization
  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, PhD, MD) is required
  • Clinically oriented training and experience in clinical trials and research are a plus
  • Translational, first in human, and/or signal finding trials experience are a plus
