“To continue to lead by my mom’s example and channel my grief into action, I have taken on the challenge to raise funds for Stand Up to Cancer annually.”
In 2018, Caroline Farney lost her mother, Sandra, to cancer. “Throughout her life, regardless of her own struggles, my mom continuously showed selflessness and generosity to all those around her,” Caroline says. “Whether it was getting involved in the church, volunteering with hospice care, or simply showing up for her family and friends, she believed that each person could make a difference through their own actions. She has impacted so many lives, and the world is a better place for having had her in it!”
Caroline decided to start a fundraiser in her mother’s memory and chose Stand Up To Cancer as the beneficiary because she believes in the mission. “I believe there are many steps towards improving the future of cancer diagnoses and outcomes. Starting with education and awareness.” She adds, “Constant research and development of new treatments and therapies is crucial to changing someone’s story. I truly believe the more resources that SU2C has, the more positive impact we will continue to see.”
For four years, Caroline has hosted an in-person brunch fundraising event with an evolving Christmas theme. “In the Farney household, Christmas was always a big deal. My mom made the Christmas season so magical, both when I was a kid and an adult. I decided to bring her love of Christmas to life.”
The event takes place in July, the anniversary of her mother’s passing. Caroline has raised nearly $35k for SU2C so far, with her last event in 2025 raising over $10k alone. “I am thankful for my village of family and friends who give me the strength and support to keep my mom’s memory alive with this project year after year.”
Caroline plans to hold future fundraisers to help others not have to experience what she went through: “I was blessed to have 22 amazing years with my mother, but there is nothing I wouldn’t do to have her back for just one more minute. If my fundraising efforts for SU2C can play even the slightest role in creating a future where daughters don’t have to grow up without their mother, that would be a dream come true.”
