FROM OUR CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Greetings,
Fifteen years ago, Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C) was founded by a group of visionary women who held unwavering faith in the potential of accelerating scientific breakthroughs through multi-institutional collaboration. Today, our relentless dedication to accelerating the pace of cancer research has resulted in bringing new therapies to patients in record time – all thanks to your support.
I am thrilled to share that our eighth biennial fundraising telecast is set to air this Saturday, August 19th, at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT on more than 50 media platforms across North America. This year’s broadcast will celebrate 15 years of supporting innovative cancer research while highlighting special moments shared with stars from film, television, sports, and journalism who champion the SU2C movement. We will also feature renowned SU2C-funded scientists who will share the progress being made in the fight against cancer and the critical need to continue funding life-saving research.
At the heart of everything we do are cancer patients. This year’s telecast offers heartwarming stories from cancer survivors whose lives have been transformed by breakthrough treatments that Stand Up To Cancer supported.
I hope you will join us for this special evening. You can learn more about the show here.
Thank you for standing up with us.
With gratitude,
|

PATIENT STORY
Zarina Hussain is an MD gynecologist as well as the caregiver to her husband, Perwez, a Ph.D. scientist and head of the pancreatic section at the National Institute of Health’s National Cancer Institute, who has stage 4 colon cancer.
Perwez has survived beyond the initial six months predicted, thanks to advanced treatments made possible by cancer research.
“Though navigating my husband Perwez’s stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis is challenging for us, it has affected our lives in a positive way by strengthening our relationship and love for each other…as the saying goes, we are making the days count instead of counting the days.” – Zarina Hussain, MD

SCIENCE AND INNOVATION
This spring, Stand Up To Cancer announced four teams focused on increasing diversity in early phase clinical trials. These multidisciplinary teams from Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia will aim to remove barriers to cancer clinical trial participation, with a focus on medically underserved communities. The teams’ goals include addressing cancer disparities and facilitating the development of new treatments that have the potential to benefit patients.

SPOTLIGHT
Earlier this year, Stand Up To Cancer launched an inspiring new PSA featuring SU2C scientific leadership and funded researchers who speak to the motivation and inspiration behind their work, and their shared goal to have a positive impact on people affected by cancer.
“Continuing to fund this critical work and support those leading the charge against cancer is imperative to SU2C’s mission. We are so appreciative of the incredible work that all of our researchers are doing, and are thankful to everyone featured in this PSA for sharing their voices to help call attention to the funding needed to push the newest and best cancer therapies forward.” – Russell Chew, President and CEO
