INSPIRATIONAL STORY
Aki Smith’s father, Shigeo, began his cancer journey in 2013 when his stomach cancer was misdiagnosed, and he was told he had six months to live. “It wasn’t until we sought a second opinion that we finally got hope,” Aki says, adding that her father was restaged to stage 3B stomach cancer. After a total gastrectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiation, Shigeo is now in remission.
Watching what her father went through inspired Aki to become an advocate for stomach cancer patients, and she now works with two different Stand Up To Cancer research teams that each focus on unique aspects of stomach cancer.

SU2C IN THE NEWS
On October 24th, the Farrah Fawcett Foundation (FFF) hosted their sixth Tex-Mex Fiesta which raised funds to benefit Stand Up To Cancer and the American Cancer Society.
SU2C and the FFF have a longstanding relationship dating back to 2014, when both organizations came together to fund an HPV Translational Research Team.
