LOS ANGELES / SAN FRANCISCO – August 30, 2017—Actress and Stand Up To Cancer Ambassador Jaime King is teaming up with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and Rally Health to get the word out about sunscreen and skin cancer prevention.
SU2C, a division of the Entertainment Industry Foundation and a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, digital health company Rally Health, Inc., and ATTN: launched a new sun safety and skin cancer awareness public service announcement (PSA) featuring the actress and SU2C Ambassador. The video PSA is part of SU2C and Rally Health’s ongoing Get Screened Now campaign to increase awareness about the importance of cancer screenings and early detection.
The PSA, titled “SPF Splain”, informs viewers about the dangers of sun overexposure and the importance of wearing sunscreen to help protect against skin cancer.
The video takes a humorous approach to address the serious topic of sun safety. King plays one of two lifeguards who spring into action to educate beachgoers about the harmful effects of too much sun and the importance of using sunscreen to help prevent skin cancer.
The PSA encourages people to always use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or greater, and reapply at least every two hours or after swimming, sweating and toweling off.
According to the American Cancer Society®, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 5.4 million skin cancers are diagnosed each year in the U.S. – more than breast, lung, prostate and colorectal cancer combined. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
“I am honored to join Stand Up To Cancer, Rally and ATTN: in this campaign,” said actress and SU2C Ambassador Jaime King. “So many of us don’t realize just how dangerous overexposure to the sun can be, and how prevalent skin cancer is in the U.S. Through this PSA, we want to emphasize the importance of sun-safety and the simple steps people can take to protect themselves against skin cancer.”
“Skin cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers, yet it is also one of the most preventable. We hope this PSA will help raise awareness,” said Stand Up To Cancer Co-Founder Lisa Paulsen. “We are so grateful to Rally, ATTN: and our incredible SU2C Ambassador Jaime King for helping us raise awareness for this important initiative and rally the public in the fight against skin cancer.”
“We remind Rally members and others that taking even the smallest step when it comes to their health can have an enormous, positive impact on their life, and even be potentially life-saving. Applying sunscreen every day is one of those small steps that we hope people take away from this entertaining video. Our thanks to Jaime King, SU2C and Attn: for helping to spread the message about using sunscreen to help reduce skin cancer risk,” said David Ko, president and COO of Rally Health.
“ATTN: is always trying to inform our audience about health and wellness issues, and preventing skin cancer is right up there as one of the most critical issues we cover,” said Taryn Crouthers, ATTN:’s head of brand partnerships. “It is great to join Stand Up To Cancer, Rally and Jaime King to spread awareness with this campaign.”
Last summer, SU2C and Rally Health launched their GetScreenedNow.org campaign to help people find out which cancer screenings are recommended for them and to take the pledge to get screened.
