“Mission” is a track to empower those facing cancer, revere cancer survivors and remember those who have passed due to cancer related illnesses. With an inspiring introduction from various cancer survivors telling their story, anchored by legendary singer/songwriter and cancer survivor Charlie Wilson, “Mission” has Lupe Fiasco expressing stories of the emotional burden of cancer, while also working to uplift those in an effort to help fight the disease. In support of “Mission,” Lupe has joined Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a grassroots movement to raise funds to accelerate the pace of cancer research, as a celebrity ambassador. Together, Lupe and Stand Up To Cancer are planning various collaborations tied to the track that will be unveiled later this year.

“‘Mission’ is a song near to my heart from both personal experience and of those close to me,” says Lupe Fiasco. “We are on a Mission and hope others will join in our efforts.”

The artwork for “Mission,” designed by renowned Chicago-based artist Hebru Brantley, features a young man dissipating into the air. The art is inspired by people’s will to fight cancer head on, with the color black representing the disintegrating disease and blue and yellow representing hope. Hebru Brantley and Lupe Fiasco, longtime friends from Chicago, collaborated on this effort as Hebru has personally experienced loss from the disease.

“Mission” is the first single off Lupe Fiasco’s highly anticipated, fifth studio album Tetsuo & Youth, out this summer. Lupe recently gave fans a taste of new music on his Tetsuo & Youth Preview tour in December 2013 and will continue to share material as the release approaches.

Tetsuo & Youth comes after Lupe’s latest album, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Part 1 released September 2012. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop chart and features tracks such as the much discussed “Bitch Bad,” the lyrically electrifying “Lamborghini Angels” and Lupe’s platinum selling single “Battle Scars” featuring Guy Sebastian. Critics heralded the album for being one of the most thought provoking and relevant hip-hop albums of the year. USA Today gave the album four out of four stars while the Associated Press proclaimed Lupe “raps masterfully on [Food & Liquor 2].”

Lupe Fiasco, once named GQ Magazine’s “Man of the Year” and Rolling Stone Magazine’s “Artist to Watch,” has been praised since his breakout hit “Kick Push” in 2006 for his philosophical, sharp and dynamic lyrics. His debut album Food & Liquor reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and subsequent album The Cool attained RIAA Gold certification. His next album LASERS debuted as the #1 album in the country and achieved another RIAA Gold certification, spawning hits “The Show Goes On” and “Out of My Head” ft. Trey Songz.
