Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and Virgin America, the California-based airline that is reinventing travel, today announce a unique partnership to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. As SU2C’s Official Domestic Airline partner, Virgin America (with Virgin Unite) has pledged to support SU2C’s mission through a multi-year in-kind travel partnership, Company fundraising and other joint efforts to drive awareness and funding for lifesaving cancer research. As of September 3, 2010, guests on Virgin America will be able to join the SU2C movement at 35,000 feet via the Red™ entertainment platform. Virgin America flight guests can visit the Shop “Make a Difference” section on the Red platform, choose a donation, swipe a credit card and join the fight to bring an end to cancer – right from their seatback touch-screen. 100% of the funds will go to cancer research and efforts designed to speed groundbreaking treatments to patients.

SU2C “Teams” Up with CBS’ Survivor for Online Fundraising Program to “Challenge The Odds”

As part of a new long-term alliance, Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is gearing up for its next Team Fundraising Challenge by joining forces with one of television’s most popular shows, Survivor on CBS. For the first time ever, Survivor will stand up and issue the “Challenge The Odds” Team Challenge with Stand Up To Cancer Ambassador and winner of Survivor: Africa, Ethan Zohn. Zohn, whose Hodgkin’s lymphoma is in remission, appeared on CBS News’s The Early Show this morning to announce the partnership and his new role as spokesperson for the Survivor team’s SU2C fundraising efforts. CBS will engage its viewers on-air and online through Survivor fan sites in the challenge. The SU2C fundraising widget is available to all SU2C Team Community participants to share on blogs and social media platforms (i.e., Facebook and Twitter) in order to rally support and encourage donations.

The Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) television event is set to air live and commercial-free on FOX, September 10, 2010, at 8p.m. EST & PST / 7 p.m. CST. Joining ABC, CBS and NBC, FOX will donate one hour of live simultaneous commercial-free primetime for the nationally televised September 10th fundraising special, to be broadcast from Los Angeles. Additionally, VH1, HBO Latino, TV One and G4 have agreed to air the SU2C event. They join HBO, Discovery Health, E!, MLB Network and The Style Network for an historic evening to raise much-needed funds for groundbreaking cancer research.

Actress Gabrielle Union To Appear At All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run By Sports Authority & Nike

Award-winning actress Gabrielle Union will join Major League Baseball, Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Paul Molitor, former Angels Bobby Grich and Tim Salmon, and Jillian Michaels, star of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” and “Losing It With Jillian,” and show her support for cancer research and education at the All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run presented by Sports Authority and Nike, taking place on Sunday, July 11, 2010. Union will help begin the event and cheer on participants at the start line. The event will benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and City of Hope with Major League Baseball donating 100% of registration fees to the organizations.

MLB And Mastercard Worldwide Announce 2010 All-Star “Hit It Here” Promotion Will Benefit SU2C

Major League Baseball and longtime official sponsor, MasterCard Worldwide, announced today that Stand Up To Cancer will be the recipient of donations in the “Hit It Here” in-stadium promotion during MLB All-Star Week. The promotion is a component of the Major League Baseball “Going Beyond” initiative, an ongoing commitment to raise funds and awareness for charitable initiatives and to celebrate the importance of community service. The first home run to directly strike one of the MasterCard “Hit It Here” signs in Angel Stadium during the 2010 State Farm® Home Run Derby or the 2010 MLB All-Star Game will result in MasterCard donating $1 million to Stand Up To Cancer. If a sign is hit during both events, MasterCard will donate a total of $2 million.
