Stand Up To Cancer Funds High-risk/High-reward Cancer Research by 13 Young Scientists

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) announced today that it is awarding $9.68 million to support high-risk/high-reward cancer research conducted by 13 young scientists. Over a three-year period, each investigator will receive a total of up to $750,000 as part of SU2C’s Innovative Research Grants program, which supports the next generation of cancer research leaders.

Katie Couric, Terrence Howard, Minka Kelly & John Kruk “Stand Up” For Mastercard “Priceless” Spot

Major League Baseball, MasterCard Worldwide and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) joined together for a historic in-stadium and televised event which occurred during Game Three of the 2009 World Series on Saturday, October 31, and incorporated the live crowd inside Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia into a “Priceless” public awareness spot produced by Stand Up To Cancer Founding Member Laura Ziskin. The spot aired between the start of the second inning and was broadcast live on FOX as well as inside the stadium. Near the conclusion of the 30-second spot – which celebrates the powerful emotions baseball creates – the action turned live to the ballpark, where CBS News anchor Katie Couric, Former Phillies first baseman (and cancer survivor) actors Terrence Howard and Minka Kelly (both of whom lost their mothers to cancer) encouraged the rest of the crowd and the viewing audience to “stand up” to cancer.

MLB and MasterCard Worldwide Expand Charitable Partnership with SU2C Throughout 2009 Postseason

Major League Baseball and MasterCard Worldwide have expanded their charitable relationship with Stand Up To Cancer throughout the 2009 Postseason. MasterCard will donate $1 million to Stand Up To Cancer if a “Hit It Here” sign in the outfield is hit with a home run during Game 3 of the World Series. In addition, MasterCard will also donate $1,000 for every home run hit throughout the entire Postseason. The MLB Division Series begins Wednesday, October 7 exclusively on TBS. The National League Championship Series begins Thursday, October 15 on TBS, with the American League Championship Series beginning the following day on FOX. Game 3 of the World Series will take place on Saturday, October 31 on FOX.

Cancer Charities Unite For The All-Star Charity 5K & Fun Run Presented By Sports Authority & Nike

In an unprecedented display of unity among organizations engaged in the fight against cancer, Michael Milken, founder of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Sherry Lansing, a founding member of Stand Up To Cancer and Susan G. Komen for the Cure founder, Ambassador Nancy Brinker will come together at the first-ever All-Star Charity 5K & Fun Run presented by Sports Authority and Nike on Sunday, July 12. The leaders will be joining Gold Medalist and Stand Up to Cancer Ambassador Shawn Johnson and baseball Hall of Famers Lou Brock, Rollie Fingers, Brooks Robinson and former Cardinal Vince Coleman. All race-related net proceeds will be donated equally to the three charities supporting cancer research and education as part of the 2009 MLB All-Star Summer program dedicated to charitable initiatives and giving back to the community.

Major League Baseball and MasterCard Worldwide announced today that Stand Up To Cancer, for the first time, will be the recipient of donations in the “Hit It Here” in-stadium promotion during All-Star Week. The promotion is part of Major League Baseball’s commitment to dedicating 2009 All-Star Summer to raising funds and awareness for charitable initiatives and celebrating the importance of community service. The first home run to directly strike one of the MasterCard “Hit It Here” signs in Busch Stadium during the 2009 State Farm® Home Run Derby or the 2009 MLB All-Star Game will result in MasterCard donating $1 million to Stand Up To Cancer. If a sign is hit during both events, MasterCard will donate a total of $2 million. In previous years, the promotion was designed to award a lucky fan in attendance at the events.

MLB To Host Free All-Star Charity Concert Featuring Nine-Time Grammy Award Winner Sheryl Crow

Major League Baseball will host Missouri native and nine-time Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Charity Concert presented by Pepsi on Saturday, July 11 under the iconic Gateway Arch at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The concert, which will be free to fans, will feature a $1 million donation by Major League Baseball to Stand Up To Cancer. In addition, fans will be able to make donations to Stand Up To Cancer after the concert. The concert will be streamed live on MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, and fans watching the live stream will be encouraged to donate to Stand Up To Cancer.

Stand Up To Cancer Awards $73.6 Million For Novel, Groundbreaking Cancer Research

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s charitable initiative supporting groundbreaking research aimed at getting new cancer treatments to patients in an accelerated timeframe, has reached a significant milestone, awarding the first round of three-year grants — that total $73.6 million—to five multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional research Dream Teams. The majority of these funds were raised in connection with an SU2C telecast on September 5, 2008 that aired simultaneously on the ABC, CBS and NBC networks. Today’s announcement comes on the one-year anniversary of the launch of Stand Up To Cancer. SU2C’s next round of funding — Innovative Research Grants for individual investigators — will be announced later this year.
