Stand Up To Cancer Encourages “Innovation in Collaboration” through Grants to Research Teams

To strengthen collaboration among scientists conducting cancer research, Stand Up To Cancer is awarding $1.25 million to five teams with members already within the SU2C research community to help them reach further across institutional and national lines to collaborate closely on new research projects, the American Association for Cancer Research, SU2C’s Scientific Partner, announced today.

PBS and Stand Up To Cancer Announce Students Selected for 2018 Class of Emperor Science Awards

One hundred high school students from 28 states have been named winners in the third year of PBS’ and Stand Up To Cancer’s Emperor Science Award program. The program is designed to empower high school students to become the next generation of scientists as they explore careers in cancer research and care through a unique mentoring opportunity. Three of the Awardees are students receiving support for a second year of mentorship, as allowed by the program.

Stand Up To Cancer Awards 2018 Laura Ziskin Prize in Translational Research

Stand Up To Cancer awarded the 2018 Laura Ziskin Prize in Translational Research to two highly respected researchers who will bring together expertise in DNA damage repair mechanisms and imaging mass cytometry to investigate how the immune system recognizes breast cancer and devise new treatment combinations for more effective treatments. The collaborators will examine the collection of neoantigens (or protein markers) present on patient-derived and laboratory models. The team will use this information to more accurately replicate human tumors in laboratory models so that new combinations of treatments can be more rapidly and accurately tested to speed more promising therapies to the clinic. The Prize was awarded at the 2018 SU2C Scientific Summit in Santa Monica.

Stand Up To Cancer Awards $11M Convergence Research Program Using AI to Investigate Immunotherapies

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) announces today a “Convergence 2.0” research initiative that awards $11 million to seven multi-disciplinary research teams to investigate immune system response to cancers. The multi-institutional teams being announced today at SU2C’s Scientific Summit draw from the nation’s top academic research centers and will have access to Microsoft Research’s experts in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Genentech, American Cancer Society, Stand Up To Cancer, and Rally Health on Cancer Screen Week

Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, the American Cancer Society (ACS), Stand Up To Cancer and Rally Health, today announced a new public health initiative called “Cancer Screen Week” urging every American to join together to make a difference in the fight against cancer by pledging to get their recommended cancer screenings. According to ACS, screening significantly increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, when they are most likely to be treated successfully. Every pledge increases the potential impact “Cancer Screen Week” can have on saving more lives from cancer. This year, “Cancer Screen Week” will take place December 4-8, 2017, and annually thereafter the first week of December.

Stand Up To Cancer And Major League Baseball Hit Home With Powerful New PSA – “Whatever It Takes”

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is set to launch a new public service announcement (PSA) campaign in collaboration with SU2C Founding Donor Major League Baseball. The PSA, titled “Whatever It Takes,” features Major League players and moments from MLB’s Championship Season that underscore the message that the end of the fight against cancer is unlikely to come from a single “home run,” but rather will be the result of numerous and smaller, yet meaningful, scientific advancements that keep the fight moving forward. The broadcast PSA will debut Saturday, Oct. 28, during Game Four of the 2017 World Series. Continuing a proud tradition that launched in 2011, the 113th Fall Classic will feature a moving tribute in the form of the “SU2C Placard Moment” following the end of the 5th inning. Thousands of fans in the ballpark will hold cards to honor those currently in the fight or who have been lost to cancer. MLB and its 30 Clubs are the founding donors of SU2C, committing $43 million to date to SU2C’s innovative cancer research.

Stand Up To Cancer Launches Four Teams on “Cancer Interception” To Detect Cancer at Earliest Stages

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), joined by the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, LUNGevity, and the American Lung Association, announced today four teams of top researchers who will carry out an attack on cancers of the lung and pancreas using a radical new approach of “interception” of cancers at very early stages, when they can be more successfully treated.

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) has created a new cancer immunotherapy public service announcement (PSA) campaign, supported by a charitable donation from Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, and featuring award-winning actor and SU2C Ambassador Jimmy Smits. The print, TV, radio, out-of-home and digital PSAs will begin airing in October.
