Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and The San Diego Padres announced today a partnership to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.May 14, 2010 – Beginning May 14, signing walls will be displayed at the Home Plate and East Village entrances to PETCO Park. Throughout the season, all fans will be encouraged to sign the wall in tribute to friends or family members impacted by cancer. During the final homestand of the season, the outfield wall at PETCO Park will be replaced with this honorary wall.
“Stand Up To Cancer has created a collaborative, results-driven approach to fighting a disease that affects everyone either directly or through someone they care about,” said Tom Garfinkel, President and COO of the San Diego Padres. “The San Diego Padres are honored to be a part of this initiative and we hope to inspire other organizations and companies to participate in this program.”
In addition to signing the wall, fans will also be able to lend their support through donations – 100% of which will go to cancer research. The Padres have set a goal to raise $500,000 for SU2C during the 2010 season. Funds will be raised through donations from the Padres Foundation, players, corporate partners and fans, as well as through proceeds from the inaugural Western Metal Theater Concert Series.
“Stand Up To Cancer is honored to have the support of the Padres. MLB is our founding donor and to now have the opportunity to bring in the resources and energy of the teams themselves will have a major impact on our fight against this deadly disease that will affect one in two men and one in three women in their lifetimes,” said Laura Ziskin, Co-Founder, Stand Up To Cancer.
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of ground-breaking research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. In the fall of 2007, a group of women whose lives have all been affected by cancer in profound ways began working together to marshal the resources of the media and entertainment industries in the fight against this disease.

About The Padres Foundation
The Padres’ partnership with Stand Up To Cancer is closely aligned with the Padres Foundation’s ongoing support of cancer-related programs. Since its inception in 1997, the Padres Foundation’s Cindy Matters Fund has been the club’s main vehicle of support for kids and families battling cancer. Over the years we have donated more than $1.3 million locally to pediatric oncology research and cancer care programs. Our players have hosted more than 1,200 VIP Kids (Very Important Padres) at the ballpark and we continue to facilitate special hospital visits in hopes that we can continue to make kids smile during a very tough time.
