LOS ANGELES (August 15, 2022) – Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C) today announced the appointment of Stephanie Herron as its first Chief Development Officer. In this newly created position, she will be responsible for the growth and development of SU2C’s fundraising strategy, focusing on major gifts, corporate philanthropy, digital engagement, and innovation.
As a member of SU2C’s senior leadership team, Herron will ensure that the organization’s culture, systems, and strategy fully align with its goals to accelerate breakthrough translational research that can lead to new cancer therapies that will save lives now. Day to day, she will oversee SU2C’s extensive donor development and donor relations functions and guide overall fundraising activities.
“Arriving at Stand Up To Cancer at this point in its impressive growth trajectory is a rare opportunity to elevate a world-class brand and advance the important mission established by SU2C’s co-founders,” Herron said. “It’s both humbling and inspiring to join SU2C at this time to lead a successful fundraising team to further strengthen the organization’s preeminent position in the cancer research community.”
Herron joins SU2C with more than two decades of experience leading strategic transformation, most recently at two of the nation’s largest healthcare nonprofits. Since 2018, she served as senior vice president of enterprise digital and innovation at ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she led strategic initiatives that helped contribute to more than $2 billion in annual fundraising revenue. Prior to ALSAC, Herron was the chief development officer at Shriners Hospitals for Children where she led integrated marketing and fundraising initiatives.
“With the addition of Stephanie Herron to our senior leadership team, SU2C gains an executive of unrivaled experience in cancer research fundraising, and a colleague who is deeply and personally invested in fulfilling our goals and accomplishing our mission,” said Russell Chew, president and CEO of Stand Up To Cancer. “Creating this new position and filling it with such a capable leader further cements SU2C’s position as an established powerhouse in the cancer research community.”
Herron earned her BA degree in communications and English at Northern Kentucky University, and an MPA degree from Texas A&M University. Her appointment is effective August 15, 2022.

About Stand Up To Cancer
Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C, a division of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established in 2008 by media and entertainment leaders who utilize these communities’ resources to engage the public in supporting a new, collaborative model of cancer research, to increase awareness about cancer prevention, and to highlight progress being made in the fight against the disease. As of July 2022, more than 3,000 scientists representing more than 210 institutions are involved in SU2C-funded research projects.
Under the direction of our Scientific Advisory Committee, led by Nobel laureate Phillip A. Sharp, PhD, SU2C conducts rigorous competitive review processes to identify the best research proposals to recommend for funding, oversee grants administration, and ensure collaboration across research programs.
Current members of the SU2C Founders and Advisors Committee (FAC) include Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, Kathleen Lobb, Lisa Paulsen, Rusty Robertson, Sue Schwartz, Pamela Oas Williams, and Ellen Ziffren. The late Laura Ziskin and the late Noreen Fraser are also co-founders. Russell Chew serves as SU2C’s president and CEO.
