SU2C AMBASSADOR Q&A: Brittany Daniel

We caught up with actress and SU2C Ambassador Brittany Daniel, who is best known for her role as Jessica Wakefield in the 1990s syndicated teen drama Sweet Valley High and her portrayal of Kelly Pitts on the CW/BET comedy-drama series The Game.

1. We often say that everyone’s life is, in one way or another, touched by cancer. How has it touched yours?

Cancer has made a huge impact on my life. My mother is a breast cancer survivor, my father unfortunately passed away after facing lung cancer, and I am a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor.

2. Your involvement with SU2C has been a huge benefit to our work, and ultimately to patients. What motivates you to lend your voice to our cause?

I’m honored to be able to be there and help other patients because as a survivor I know first-hand how lonely and scary facing this disease can be. I’ve attended the live telecasts with my sister [actress and photographer Cindy Daniel] and it was just incredible to walk with her by my side and share my story in support of a cause that’s so important to me. I’m grateful that I can be an advocate and help others facing cancer.

3. If we asked you to recruit a friend in the entertainment industry to become an SU2C ambassador, what would be your pitch?

It’s important that we continue to do research to continue to find more advanced treatments. I’m the perfect example of why cancer research is so important and the very real benefits of it. I remember my doctors telling me that if I had been diagnosed with my late-stage cancer type just five years earlier, I might not have survived it. Fortunately, when I was diagnosed, there were more advanced treatments that saved my life.

4. Whom do you Stand Up for?

I Stand Up for all my friends who are currently in the fight.
