Tony Goldwyn Honors His Mother in New Lung Cancer PSA for SU2C

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), is increasing national awareness about one of the deadliest cancers, lung cancer, in a new public service announcement (PSA), which is supported by a charitable donation from Bristol-Myers Squibb. The campaign features actor, director and SU2C ambassador Tony Goldwyn, who lost his mother, Jennifer Coleman to lung cancer. The PSA will begin airing April 2015.

SU2C and PBS LearningMedia Announce Award Program For Students In Conjunction with Film Supporters

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and PBS LearningMedia announced today The EMPEROR Science Award Program, an initiative that will encourage students from disadvantaged high schools to pursue careers in science, with a particular emphasis on cancer research through a year of mentorship with a scientist from a leading research institution or industry. The education initiative, announced this morning by SU2C co-founder Katie Couric at Columbia University, is being launched in connection with Ken Burns Presents CANCER: THE EMPEROR OF ALL MALADIES a Film by Barak Goodman, a three-part film on the history of cancer that will air on PBS Monday, March 30, Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1.

CRUK and The Lustgarten Foundation Join With SU2C to Fund New Pancreatic Cancer Dream Team

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is now accepting submissions of ideas for the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C)-Cancer Research UK-Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Dream Team Translational Research Grant. The grant provides up to $12 million over a three-year period for research on prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of pancreatic cancer by a “Dream Team” of top scientists.

SU2C-Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Convergence Dream Team Supports New Immunotherapy Trial

Aduro Biotech, Inc. today announced the initiation of an investigator-sponsored Phase 2 clinical trial of the company’s immuno-oncology product candidates GVAX Pancreas and CRS-207 in combination with Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Opdivo (nivolumab), a monoclonal antibody against programmed death-1 receptor (PD-1). The first patient has been enrolled in the trial that will be conducted at up to five U.S. clinical trial sites.

Groundbreaking Public Media Project On Cancer Announces TV Special Hosted by Katie Couric

WETA, the flagship public media station for Washington, D.C., announced today, World Cancer Day, that it has produced a 30-minute television special titled Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies — A Conversation. The program is a companion piece to the national public media project Ken Burns Presents Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies A Film by Barak Goodman, which includes a six-hour documentary series for PBS that presents a comprehensive report on the history of the disease, the state of cancer today, the treatments and the promise of ongoing research.The series is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer (Simon & Schuster 2010) by Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D. At the urging of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) co-founder, the late Laura Ziskin, the Entertainment Industry Foundation obtained the television and film rights for its Stand Up To Cancer initiative shortly after the book was published.
