4 Teams Receive $1M for Research Through SU2C-Phillip A. Sharp Innovation in Collaboration Awards

A total of $1 million has been awarded to four teams of cancer researchers from Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) to encourage accelerated or elevated collaboration and innovation among SU2C-supported researchers. Each team receiving a grant of $250,000 comprises two researchers from SU2C Dream Teams or research grants, different institutions, different research interests, and even different continents.

Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer

At last night’s Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer fundraising event, Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) Co-Founder Katie Couric recognized MasterCard as a SU2C Visionary, a small group of donors who have each contributed more than $25 million. MasterCard then announced its new commitment of $10 million to support SU2C’s innovative cancer research programs. Additionally, a new $6 million grant from The Lustgarten Foundation was announced which will be combined with funding from Cancer Research UK (CRUK) for a three-way collaborative, international pancreatic cancer dream team with SU2C.

Fifth Third Surpasses $4M in Donations to SU2C; Commits to Further Collaboration in Multi-Year Deal

Fifth Third Bank announced today that the Company has exceeded $4 million in donations to Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) through contributions from its SU2C credit and debit cards as well as its 2014 “Pay to the Order of” campaign. The Bank also announced an expanded relationship with SU2C in a multi-year deal.

Stand Up To Cancer Supported Research Discovers Why Patients Respond to a Life-Saving Melanoma Drug

Work supported by the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) – Cancer Research Institute (CRI) – Immunology Translational Research Dream Team, launched in 2012 to focus on how the patient’s own immune system can be harnessed to treat some cancers have pioneered an approach to predict why advanced melanoma patients respond to a new life-saving melanoma drug. This new drug, pembrolizumab (Keytruda), was recently approved by the FDA. These findings are reported in Nature online November 26, 2014, ahead of print in the journal.

SU2C and the Dutch Cancer Society Form a Dream Team to Improve Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and the Dutch Cancer Society, KWF Kankerbestrijding (KWF), along with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), SU2C’s Scientific Partner, announced today the formation of an international Dream Team of top research scientists with the goal of improving early detection of colorectal cancer, currently the world’s fourth-leading cause of cancer death.

SU2C Epigenetics Dream Team Continues With $7.5 Million Funding From Van Andel Research Institute

The work of one of the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) inaugural Dream Teams, launched in 2009 to focus on epigenetic therapy in cancer treatment, will continue with the commitment of $7.5 million from Van Andel Research Institute (VARI). Peter A. Jones, PhD, DSc, VARI’s research director and chief scientific officer, and Stephen Baylin, MD, deputy director of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University, will serve as leaders of the Dream Team.

Ken Burns’ “Cancer: The Emperor Of All Maladies” to Premiere on PBS March 30-April 1, 2015

Ken Burns Presents CANCER: THE EMPEROR OF ALL MALADIES, a three-part, six-hour documentary directed by award-winning filmmaker Barak Goodman and executive produced by Ken Burns, will air on PBS March 30-April 1, 2015, WETA Washington, D.C. announced today. The project, which includes the documentary and a comprehensive national engagement campaign, is a collaboration between Florentine Films, Laura Ziskin Pictures, WETA, Ark Media, Stand Up to Cancer and an array of other project supporters, and is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D., The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer (Simon & Schuster 2010). WNYC, New York City’s flagship public radio station and premier producer of local and national programming, is the official radio partner.

SU2C and The V Foundation Call for Investigators to Apply to Convergence Research Teams Ideas Lab

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and The V Foundation announced today their invitation for applications from junior and senior investigators with a demonstrated background in biological research to participate in an Ideas Lab to be held February 13 – 18, 2015. The Ideas Lab involves intensive meetings and discussions to develop research proposals employing novel quantitative approaches to the study of preclinical and clinical cancer data. Ideas Lab participants will develop research project proposals, integrating mathematical and computational approaches, and clinical cancer research that have the potential to lead to near term patient benefit.

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA®) have collaborated on a new print, radio and digital public service campaign featuring actress and cancer survivor Christina Applegate. The public service announcement (PSA), entitled “When You Don’t Know What to Say, Stand Up,” highlights the ways friends and family can provide support to a loved one diagnosed with cancer. The campaign launches today.

CVS Health Announces $10 Million Commitment to Stand Up To Cancer to Fund Innovative Cancer Research

CVS/pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Health (NYSE: CVS), today announced an in-store fundraising campaign to help raise funds to support cancer research. Now through November 22, CVS/pharmacy customers will have the opportunity to support Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) at the register in stores nationwide and online at www.cvs.com/SU2C. SU2C raises funds to accelerate the pace of cancer research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. This campaign is part of CVS Health’s three-year $10 million commitment to SU2C.
