SU2C Awards Inaugural SU2C Phillip A. Sharp Innovation in Collaboration Awards

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), the charitable initiative supporting ground-breaking research aimed at getting new cancer treatments to patients in an accelerated timeframe, along with its scientific partner the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), announced the five inaugural SU2C Phillip A. Sharp Innovation in Collaboration Awards during a press event today at the AACR Annual Meeting 2014, held here April 5-9.

Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer

At last night’s Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer fundraising event, Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) Co-Founder Katie Couric recognized MasterCard as a SU2C Visionary, a small group of donors who have each contributed more than $25 million. MasterCard then announced its new commitment of $10 million to support SU2C’s innovative cancer research programs. Additionally, a new $6 million grant from The Lustgarten Foundation was announced which will be combined with funding from Cancer Research UK (CRUK) for a three-way collaborative, international pancreatic cancer dream team with SU2C.

The American Cancer Society, the largest voluntary health organization in the world dedicated to eliminating cancer, and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), the charitable initiative supporting groundbreaking research aimed at getting new treatments to patients in an accelerated timeframe, announced today an historic collaboration in the fight against cancer, which takes more than 585,000 lives in the U.S. each year and nearly 8 million worldwide.

Samuel L. Jackson Stands with SU2C and St. Baldricks

St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) will unveil a new print and broadcast public service announcement featuring actor Samuel L. Jackson. The PSA, entitled “In Play,” is designed to increase awareness about childhood cancers and the critical importance for infants and children, and in particular teens and young adults with childhood cancers, to be treated by pediatric oncologists. Survival for teens and young adults is far greater when treated on pediatric cancer protocols.

SU2C-Dutch Cancer Society Call for Applications Now Open

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is now accepting applications for a Sta Op Tegen Kanker (“Stand Up To Cancer” in Dutch) Dream Team Translational Cancer Research Grant. This grant opportunity will offer up to 6 million euros (U.S. $8.25 million, at the current conversion rate) in research funding and is provided by Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and KWF Kankerbestrijding (the Dutch Cancer Society).

Auction of MLB Experiences & Items Benefiting SU2C

For the second consecutive year, Major League Baseball and its 30 Clubs have organized a Winter Meetings charity auction that includes once-in-a-lifetime experiences and unique items to benefit Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). The initiative was inspired by the numerous members of the baseball family who have been diagnosed with cancer in recent years.

Starting on November 25th, Dan Patrick will challenge his fans to text donations as part of an engaging and humorous competition to determine which of the show’s famous “Danettes” will be chosen to don an ugly sweater for an entire week.

Potential New Melanoma Treatment Option

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), the charitable initiative supporting ground-breaking research aimed at getting new cancer treatments to patients in an accelerated timeframe, announces that the Allan H. (Bud) and Sue Selig Stand Up To Cancer Melanoma Innovative Research Grant Recipient Roger S. Lo, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has published two studies in Cancer Discovery, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research which indicate that treatment using combinatory therapy may be effective in suppressing drug resistance in the treatment of melanoma.
